About The Foundation

The Jason Ritchie Hockey Scholarship Foundation (JRHSF) was established by the Ritchie family in memory of Jason Ritchie who was tragically killed in a car accident in 2009. Our mission is to provide resources and mentoring to youth who share in Jason’s drive and dedication.

The JRHSF will help to shape the lives of tomorrow’s leaders who need support from us. We will invest in deserving youth recognizing that hockey builds Character, Commitment, Teamwork, Persistence, Selflessness, Academic Excellence and Sportsmanship.

The JRHSF is funded exclusively by individual and corporate donations as well as grant funding from other sources. By providing resources to deserving youth, we can help bring about positive change. But the success stories are not ours alone – they belong to all of those who support the JRHSF efforts.  The JRHSF believes the best way for our future leaders to gain the life skills necessary to succeed is to embrace hockey and all its teachings…we must invest in our youth and hockey is a great avenue!

Hockey provides an opportunity to pursue excellence, both of physical performance and character.
The team environment stimulates growth through mutual encouragement, challenge, and support. According to researchers at The Institute for the Study of Youth Sports at Michigan State University, kids that play sports actually do better in school and have enhanced social skills.

Still early in our development, the JRHSF has already made a significant impact. But there is so much more we all can do.  Jason Ritchie’s legacy is left to current and future hockey players.  We are only now beginning to realize the foundation’s potential.  Our work now will impact the lives of so many generations to come.

The JRHSF believes the best way for our children to gain the life skills necessary to succeed is to embrace hockey and all of its teachings on and off the ice. Our goal is to assist deserving players who lack the tools needed to succeed. It is in the foundation and board’s interest to help children realize their dreams.  We honor Jason by helping those in need and giving forward.
